Shimane Prefecture (Shimane-ken) is located in the Chugoku region on Honshu
island, Japan. The capital is the city of Matsue. It is the "water
city," sitting on beautiful Lake Shinji, the seventh largest lake
in Japan. The city boasts Matsue Castle, the "black castle",
one of the few remaining medieval castles in Japan. Shimane has an area
elongated from east to west facing the Chugoku Mountain Range on the south
side and to the Sea of Japan on the north side. Most of the cities are
near the shoreline of the Sea of Japan. There is Izumo Taisha in Izumo
City.

Shimane Flower is Moutan peony (Paeonia suffruticosa)
Shimane Tree is Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii)
SGI practice Soka Gakkai's particular form of Nichiren Buddhism. Butsudan
Buddhist altar Nichiren taught that by chanting "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo"
to the Gohonzon. SGI practitioners call this process a "human revolution."
